General TIPS & TRICKS II

1. Changing the Icon Size:

Activate the desktop in Vista with [Win] + [D]. Keep the [Ctrl] key pressed and rotate the mouse wheel forward or backward to incease or decrease.

2. Displaying Several Time Zones:

Open ' Start | Control Panel | Date and Time '. On a special tab, you can manage and display additional clocks.

3. Increasing Storage Space:

In ' Start | Control Panel | Power Options | Hibernate ' ,remove the check mark before ' Enable Hibernation'. With this, the function is deactivated should you prefer this.

4. Renaming Files Faster:

Press the key [F2] to change any file name and then press [Enter]. This saves time compared to using the context menu.

5. Opening Drives in Explorer:

With [F4], the cursor jumps to the address bar and opens the drop down list for faster access to the individual system drives.

6. Minimize the Ribbon Bar:

To minimize the ribbon bar in Office 2007, either press [Ctrl] + [F10 or double click on the currently active menu tab.

7. Display Installed Programs:

Type "regsvr32appwiz.cpl" at the command prompt if the list of installed programs does not show under XP.

8. Magnifying Desktop Objects:

With [Windows] + [U], you can directly open the Utility manager that offers access to a screen magnifier and screen keyboard.

9. Quicker start for Programs:

The registry value "0" for "MenuShowDelay" in the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Desktop" registry key makes the Start Menu faster under XP.

10. Find Synonyms:

Find synonyms quickly in Microsoft Office Word by placing the cursor on the desired word and press [Shift] + [F7] at the same time. This way, synonyms can easily be searched for any specific word.
