Vedic Maths Tricks You Can Use Today

Vedic maths is mental arithmetic on steroids. It's a method for calculating the answer to scarily large sums in your head and once you get the hang of it, it's usually quicker than using a calculator. With the added advantage that it's a lot less easy to hit the wrong "keys" in your head so you can use these Vedic maths tricks to check that you haven't made a mistake in your calculations.

Can it be divided by 3?

OK, not something you necessarily need to do every day but it's a quick way to show you how you can use the power of Vedic mathematics to play around with larger numbers.

Add the digits of the number together. Then divide the result by 3.

So let's take the number 1791.

Add the digits together: 1 + 7 + 9 +1 = 18.

18 is divisible by three (it's 3 x 9) so that means that the large-ish number 1791 is divisible by three as well.
