Some Basics on Astrological House Ownerships

It is well known that planets give good or bad results depending on their natural benefic or malefic disposition. The natural benefic planets are Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Moon (Chandra), and Mercury (Budha) if well accompanied. The natural malefic planets are Saturn (Shani), Mars (Mangal), Sun (Surya), and Mercury (Budha) if ill-accompanied.

However, one has to look at their house ownerships before coming to any definite conclusions about their good or evil capabilities. The ownership of Trine houses, 1, 5, and 9 will bestow good qualities on the planets; the ownership of the Trick houses 3, 6, and 11 will bestow evil qualities on the planets. A simple rule applies here. If a planet is a natural malefic, the owning of a Trine will make him a benefic. But if a planet is a natural benefic, the owning of a Trine will make him extraordinarily benefic. Same goes with the Trick houses. If a natural benefic owns a Trick house he will become evil. But if a natural malefic owns a Trick, he will become extraordinarily evil.

There is another point to keep in mind when determining the auspiciousness of a planet. The order of the houses determines their strength. For the Trines, house 9 is stronger than 5th, and house5 isstronger than 1st. For the Tricks house 11 is more powerful than the6th, and the6th house more powerful than the3rd. Finally for the angular house, the 10th is the strongest, the 7th second strongest, etc.
